The last time you chose a pair of shoes did you think about how it was going to slim your figure? It may seem absurd, but shoes do have the power to shape your body and make you look slimmer and thinner. Just as any other element of your fashion outfit, shoes also have to properly suit and flatter your body shape.
Petite Women: It’s Not All About The High Heels
As a petite woman, you know that high heels are your best bet and your best friend. However, it’s not all about high heels. Most petite women also favour wedges and platforms over heels, as they tend to be more comfortable and practical on a daily basis. Whichever you prefer best, the height of the heels and the boxiness of the wedges and platforms need to be carefully selected. Heels that are too high can leave you looking disproportional – a child on stilts; while heavy, boxy wedges will make you look rounder and shorter. As a petite woman, you need to choose heels and wedges that are proportional to your height and weight, thus elongating the body and adding length to your legs.
Peep-toe or pointy shoes are also flattering on you as they slim and tone the lines of you body. When selecting a pointy shoe, make sure they are not too pointy, which will make your feet seem large in relation to your body.
For a more casual look, ankle-high gladiator sandals look amazing on your slim ankles (definitely not recommended for thicker ankles). Ballerina flats are another great choice, particularly when they are worn with a skirt or a dress that falls just above the knee. For the colder months, knee-high boots are recommended.
Shoes with bright colours and even print shoes look fabulous on you, so have fun, go a bit wild and wear them with pride.
Finally, we have come to the most important tip concerning shoes and petite women: do not wear shoes with ankle straps. Ankle straps will disrupt the smooth line between the heel and the knee, which will create the illusion of shorter, thicker legs. Likewise, straps, buckles, excessive details are also to be avoided, as they will make your legs appear shorter and stubbier.
Banana Shaped Bodies: From Heels to Pointy Shoes
Simple, neutral toned elegant pumps are the signature shoes of the banana shaped woman. Pumps will elongate your legs, make them seem even thinner and slimmer.
Contrary to petite women, straps, especially t-straps are recommended to add some volume to your legs, shaping them even further. For all those banana-shaped women who believe that tall, slim girls shouldn’t wear heels, well this isn’t entirely true. Go out and get yourself a pair of elegant stilettos and wear them with pride, just make sure that you stay with a clean-cut look without too many patterns and details.
For a more casual and fun look, banana shaped women are recommended to wear textured shoes, loafers, and moccasins. Shoes like ballerina flats and Mary Janes will also flatter your body shape, adding a touch of femininity and poise. Gladiator flats will also look great and add some bulk to your knees.
Pointy shoes on the other hand are to be avoided, as they will make you look too long and slinky.
Hourglass Women: The Lucky Few
For hourglass women, shoes of practically any style look great. From peep-toe heels and wedges that place an emphasis on your hourglass shape and compliment your curves, to plats and gladiator and straps that slim your figure, the world of shoes is yours to experiment. Oh, how lucky you are.
Apple Shaped Women: It’s All About Your Legs
Apple shaped ladies, lean towards platform shoes, wedges and pumps to contrast your slim legs, move attention away from your midsection, and create the illusion of a balanced, slim figure.
With your slim legs, ballerina flats and strappy sandals work perfectly well, adding some attention to your legs, while keeping you comfortable on your feet.
Bright coloured heels and stilettos are also a great wear to draw attention downward, thin your figure and balance your silhouette.
Pear Shaped Women: Balancing Your Figure
Another figure that looks great in open-toe shoes and especially open-toed wedges. These wedges will add length, slim your figure and balance out your curves. Pointy high heels will also add length to your legs, create the illusion of slimmer, thinner legs and make you look poised and confident.
When it comes to boots, knee high, slouchy boots are your best choice. Thigh high boots with pointed toes are also a great look to lengthen your legs and move attention away from your thighs. Stay away from mid-calf boots, gladiator flats, or shoes that wrap around your ankle.
