Long summer days are a perfect excuse to freshen up you your wardrobe. But whether you are searching for a new holiday look or just a style update there are a few key rules to ensure a flattering finish. The change in season can mean skin baring outfits or hard to wear brights, so how do you ensure that you stay style forward without baring just a little too much? Follow our top tips to stay gorgeous as the heat rises.
Tapered Hem Lines
Skirts or dresses with a hem line that dips lower at the back than it does at the front are a fashion forward look that will keep you cool whilst elongating your figure. A short skirt can be a hard look to pull off on a fuller figure but this gently curving style creates a less harsh line across the body and pulls the eye downwards to lengthen your body shape. Try teaming with a simple V-neck tee and sandals for a casual and pretty look or rock with heels and luxe fabrics for a glam finish.
Choose Fabrics Wisely
Fabric choice can be the difference between a fashion hit or miss in the summer. A fabric that works well in the winter can react completely differently in the summer against the heat of your body. Avoid clingy, polyester based fabrics in favour of breathable cottons and loose sheer knits. Choose a few key flattering styles, a beautiful A line skirt, a great pair of cropped pants, a versatile top and a go anywhere belted shirt dress in heat happy fabrics to ensure you are ready for whatever summer throws at you.

Cool Cover Ups
Summer doesn’t have to mean baring acres of skin and feeling uncomfortable and exposed. Choose light summer cover ups like kimonos and cropped jackets to flatter and highlight the best parts of your figure. A long line kimono will work well on pear and apple shapes, lengthening and slimming whilst a cropped jacket is a great waist emphasising trick for rectangle shapes. Sometimes less is more and by exposing a hint of décolletage and slender lower arms and legs you create a flattering body shape that leaves you feeling amazing.
Less Bright is More
Suddenly the shops are full of ultra brights and vivid patterns but wearing these colours all over can make you appear larger than you are. Think of these shades and designs as highlighters and use them to draw attention to areas you want to emphasise. If you are a classic pear stick to ultra brights on the top to add balance to a bottom heavy figure. Or use bright colours as an accent in accessories, shoes and jackets over a darker central outfit to add interest whilst ensuring a slimming silhouette
